Cloister takes the Gothic quatrefoil and pares it down to a clean vertical form. The motif runs in a steady line through hand-carved alabaster, giving the surface rhythm without turning it ornate. That restraint is what makes the piece work. The dull gold detailing at either end holds the silhouette neatly, though the eye stays on the stone. Slight changes in tone, density, and finish break the repeat and keep the pattern from feeling too fixed.
